Quick Quote: Valasquez is ready for 5 rounds with Lesnar

Despite finishing all but one of his fights via knockout, current number one contender Cain Valasquez has declared himself ready for a five round war with current Champ Brock Lesnar. Currently 8-0 in his MMA career, Valasquez was last seen dismantling Minitauro Nogueira back at UFC 110 in Febuary. Prior to this, he has defeated Cheick Kongo and Big Ben Rothwell.

Unlike Lesnar's last opponent, Shane Carwin, who gassed after the first round after just a round with the Champ, Cain Valasquez promises he will be different, when he meets Lesnar:

“I think it showed what kind of a champion Brock really is, I feel he’s proved a lot. The way he came back, what it shows is that the next time, the referee isn’t going to be quick to stop the fight.”

“I can’t just stand there in front of him with no movement and let him explode for a double [-leg takedown].The wrestling is going to be a big part of it/ He’s primarily a wrestler and I come from a wrestling background. But the fight will come down to everything. I expect there will be boxing, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and wrestling. You have to do the time (five rounds) in the gym. I’m going to be doing five rounds every time I spar.”

“In college, I felt the guys were as strong as I was for the first half of the first round. But by the second round, there was a difference, and by the third round I felt a lot stronger. I’m going to have to follow the game plan to perfection.”

Valasquez is tenatively schedueled to meet Brock Lesnar at UFC 121, on October 23, 2010 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, United States. TUF 11 winner is expected to face Ryan Jensen at this event.
